City Government
Rancho Cucamonga is organized as a
General Law city and operates according to the statutes
of the State of California. This is different from the
other form of local organization known as a Charter
City. Charter cities operate according to the laws established
by a local city charter (similar to a constitution for
cities). Rancho Cucamonga doesn't have a charter and
that is why it operates under general state laws.
Rancho Cucamonga is managed under the
Council-Manager form of local government. This means
that there is an elected city council responsible for
setting policy and an appointed city manager responsible
for implementing that policy and for day to day operations
of the City.
The City Manager is the administrative
head of city government. The City manager enforces all
municipal laws, directs daily operations, and prepares
and administers the budget. The City Manager sees that
the policy direction of the City Council and obligations
of the City are carried out through the City staff and
departments. Below is the City's Organization Chart.
